My first son was just a couple of months old and we were at a family get together when I announced that we were considering homeschooling for our child/future children. GASP!!! You can’t do that! Why would you do that? Your child has to go to school to learn manners! Your child needs to be around other children their age!
Now I’m all for having your own opinions, the Lord created us to all be different, have different thoughts, and different passions, but what I didn’t realize was that one little statement would create such an uproar. Now here are my thoughts and opinions on why we are homeschooling and why you should too.
We chose to homeschool because we wanted to teach our children to love the lord more than anything else, to learn their Bibles, and for them to learn to love learning. Loving to learn is important because our children will be educating themselves for the rest of their lives. We want to train our children to live a christian life, if our children were in public school it would be a lot harder to train them because we wouldn’t be there to guide them. We want for them to learn through the eyes of the Lord. I believe that the Lord has put it in my heart to homeschool my children.
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” Matthew 22:37
“Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” Deuteronomy 11:19
“Train a child in the way he should go: and when he grows old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6
“A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:” Proverbs 1:5
Am I Qualified To Homeschool?
Am I qualified to homeschool my children? YES!! I am the most qualified person on this planet to homeschool my children. I love my children more than any teacher will love my children and I want to invest into their education. My children are a gift from the Lord, they are precious and I am going to protect them while their young minds are still so vulnerable. Who knows my children better than me?
“Behold, children are a gift of the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward.” Psalm 127:3
Preparing My Children For The Real World…
People will argue that to prepare your child for the real world they need socialization and to go to public school. I strongly disagree! When you send your child to public school your child is running around with other children their age, learning to be to be of this world and foolish. In reality when your out in the real world when are you in the same room where everyone is the same age? Never!
As for socializing my children I’d rather not. To be socialized means for someone to behave in a way that is suitable to society, to conform to the way of the world and not the Lord. Homeschooled children are able to be socialized in many ways such as co-ops, clubs, sports, church activities, and at family gatherings.
Families with more than one child can have sibling socialization, if your children can learn to get along with each other than they more than likely get along with anyone. If you have siblings you yourself would know that siblings can be some the hardest people to get along with. With so many great options to choose from you can actually over socialize your children. In our family we want to encourage sibling fellowship.
“Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child;” Proverbs 22:15
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Romans 12:2
We all have our own thoughts, opinions, and passions because that’s how the good Lord made us. No one person is right but we have chosen to homeschool because we fill that homeschooling is in line with God’s will for our family. Besides homeschooling has many benefits for our family such as more time together, scheduling flexibility, it allows our children to learn in real life circumstances, our children get to learn in a Christ centered atmosphere, and lastly they will learn to work diligently, and to relate to people of all ages.
“The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.” Proverbs 13:4
“Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.” Mathew 6:10
